Texell has been honored with the Excellence in Lending Award from CUNA Mutual Group, the Desjardins Adult Financial Literacy Award from the Texas Credit Union League, the Best Bank/Credit Union by the readers of the Temple Daily Telegram, Best Credit Union by the readers of the Killeen Daily Herald and the Belton Journal and consistently earns the highest five-star, superior rating for financial soundness from Bauer Financial.Position SummaryThe Staff Attorney will serve as in-house legal counsel to the credit union, providing guidance on regulatory compliance, contract review, collections and bankruptcy matters, litigation management, real estate and lending transactions, employment law, and board governance. This role works closely with executive leadership, department heads, and outside counsel to protect the credit union’s interests and support sound, compliant decision-making across the organization.What you’ll do:Provide legal advice and counsel to the executive team on a wide range of legal and regulatory mattersDraft, review, and negotiate contracts, vendor agreements, and third-party service agreementsMonitor and interpret federal and state laws and regulations affecting credit unions and advise on compliance implicationsOversee and direct the work of paralegal and support staffManage or oversee litigation, including collections, foreclosures, and bankruptcy proceedings involving the credit unionSupport lending, real estate, and collateral recovery matters, including loan documentation and workout agreementsAssist with employment law matters, including policy review, disputes, and HR guidanceSupport board governance matters, including bylaws, policy drafting, and meeting materialsCoordinate with and manage outside counsel on specialized or high-exposure mattersAssist in developing and delivering internal training on legal and regulatory topicsStay current on emerging legal issues affecting financial institutions, including data privacy, AI governance, and consumer protection lawWe’re looking for:Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law schoolActive member in good standing with the State Bar of TexasMinimum of 2-5 years of relevant legal experience, ideally in banking, financial services, commercial law, or a related fieldStrong understanding of contract law, regulatory compliance, and collections/bankruptcy processesExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-legal audiencesSound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential mattersPreferred qualifications:Prior in-house counsel experience with a credit union, bank, or other financial institutionFamiliarity with NCUA regulations and credit union operationsExperience with real estate transactions, UCC matters, or secured lendingWhat We OfferFull-time schedule (40 hours per week in office) 401(k) with up to a 6% company match Paid vacation and sick leave beginning on your first day Career development and growth opportunities Community involvement through Texell Serves Employee appreciation and family events Collaborative and supportive team culture
